The starter does not appear new by any means, it starts fine when it’s cold. However after a quick 5-10 minute drive it is heat soaked and hardly cranks. Has anyone had any success with the heat blankets? And if I need to order a new starter does it need to be Pantera specific? This car has a Windsor in it so I’d like to get a mini starter off the shelf. Sent from my iPhone

When I tested mine, fuel was gushing out of the boosters under hard braking.
Leveling the carb and lowering the fuel in the bowls fixed it 100%.
I know the common solution is the vent tubes, which is why I'll never forget the sight of fuel coming out of the boosters.

Wanted to give an update on my AC debacle, after speaking with Larry Stock yesterday I wanted to get another eyeball on the compressor wiring and decided to try something maybe not so intelligent but I’m happy to report that it worked out. Being that the relay in the drivers footwell was receiving power but the compressor wasn’t, I wanted to try jumping the connection with alligator leads. And that’s exactly what I did, followed by a satisfying click of the compressor. I quickly then had cool air coming from the vents. I then disconnected the jumper leads and allowed the car to function as it should. I power cycled the system several times, via key on/off, started and shut off engine a couple times. Then drove the car around and all seems well thus far and the AC is functioning perfectly. However Larry did bring up a rather scary point that if the system is contaminated with oil from the factory r12 setup it may not last long. Let’s hope that isn’t the case because I do not want to pull the dashboard out of the car. This car had a ton of work including the AC done at Prestige Motorsports and I am less than impressed by what I have seen so far. They gave the car back to the owner without Freon in the system, let alone function testing any of it. After updating everything with new lines, condenser and compressor I’m having a hard time understanding why a business would do something so idiotic. Asa Jay also had this car at one point and he has had to do quite a bit of wrenching to clean up the mess those guys made with this car. Asa has been a pivotal source of information for me and I am very thankful for every bit of help he has given me, he’s been a godsend in getting this car dialed into what it deserves to be. So thank you Asa, genuinely. It’s really disgusting what those people at Prestige did to a high dollar paying customer (owner of the car). I’m hoping to be able to spend a lot of time tidying things up fixing all of their shortcomings and keeping this beautiful car on the road for many years to come. On that note, I am having a very strange issue with hard braking. If I stab the brakes hard, the car will idle way down and even die. I did a vacuum leak test around the carb and intake manifold yesterday and didn’t find anything. However the car is equipped with an auxiliary vacuum pump on the booster so vacuum shouldn’t (?) be an issue. The carb floats are set center line, but I have a hunch I still need to lower the rear float despite the carb having whistle vent tubes it seems like fuel is flooding into the butterfly’s. I have read some posts by Asa regarding the carb being a real pain in the ass to tune, and the cam not hardly making any vacuum which are most likely contributing factors. But my hunch is that fuel is sloshing. What can I do to mitigate or test this? Sent from my iPhone pain

I’m currently trying to diagnose an AC problem and I’m on the verge of getting figured out. After a few weeks of running the Pantera A/C system, the mineral oil will react with the PAG oil forming little gelatinous globs that will block the Evaporator filter. O-Ring vs Flare Fittings: All the AC shops seem to have lost the art of working with flare fittings on older A/C systems. Flare Fittings are becoming obsolete to the newer O-Ring fittings. The O-Rings are much simpler to work with. The Flare fittings, once properly sealed will last a life time. I just had to order 40 Sandon SD-5 compressors as a minimum order to have them make these with Flare fittings and not use O-Ring to Flare fitting adaptors. I am also having supply issues for all the different flare style hose ends to find matching hose ends with flare fittings for all the combinations we assemble in the quantities we make up at a time.

I had the same problem and made my own vent tube for my Pantera. See

Still new here so I’m hopefully replying in the correct manner.
Wanted to give an update on my AC debacle, after speaking with Larry
Stock yesterday I wanted to get another eyeball on the compressor
wiring and decided to try something maybe not so intelligent but I’m
happy to report that it worked out. Being that the relay in the drivers
footwell was receiving power but the compressor wasn’t, I wanted to try
jumping the connection with alligator leads. And that’s exactly what I
did, followed by a satisfying click of the compressor. I quickly then
had cool air coming from the vents. I then disconnected the jumper
leads and allowed the car to function as it should. I power cycled the
system several times, via key on/off, started and shut off engine a
couple times. Then drove the car around and all seems well thus far and
the AC is functioning perfectly.
However Larry did bring up a rather scary point that if the system is
contaminated with oil from the factory r12 setup it may not last long.
Let’s hope that isn’t the case because I do not want to pull the
dashboard out of the car. This car had a ton of work including the AC
done at Prestige Motorsports and I am less than impressed by what I
have seen so far. They gave the car back to the owner without Freon in
the system, let alone function testing any of it. After updating
everything with new lines, condenser and compressor I’m having a hard
time understanding why a business would do something so idiotic. Asa
Jay also had this car at one point and he has had to do quite a bit of
wrenching to clean up the mess those guys made with this car. Asa has
been a pivotal source of information for me and I am very thankful for
every bit of help he has given me, he’s been a godsend in getting this
car dialed into what it deserves to be. So thank you Asa, genuinely.
It’s really disgusting what those people at Prestige did to a high
dollar paying customer (owner of the car). I’m hoping to be able to
spend a lot of time tidying things up fixing all of their shortcomings
and keeping this beautiful car on the road for many years to come.
On that note, I am having a very strange issue with hard braking. If I
stab the brakes hard, the car will idle way down and even die. I did a
vacuum leak test around the carb and intake manifold yesterday and
didn’t find anything. However the car is equipped with an auxiliary
vacuum pump on the booster so vacuum shouldn’t (?) be an issue. The
carb floats are set center line, but I have a hunch I still need to
lower the rear float despite the carb having whistle vent tubes it
seems like fuel is flooding into the butterfly’s. I have read some
posts by Asa regarding the carb being a real pain in the ass to tune,
and the cam not hardly making any vacuum which are most likely
contributing factors. But my hunch is that fuel is sloshing. What can I
do to mitigate or test this?

It depends on what type of compressor oil they filled, if they have
converted to R134a. Ester oil is compatible with both R12 and R134a and
is what they used when converting my system 20+ years ago.

Ester Oil, PAG Oil, & Mineral Oil:
All the new compressors come with some sort of PAG oil in them that
needs to be flushed out and changed to Ester oil for some residual
cross compatibility with the original R12 mineral oil. After a few
weeks of running the Pantera A/C system, the mineral oil will react
with the PAG oil forming little gelatinous globs that will block the
Evaporator filter.
O-Ring vs Flare Fittings:
All the AC shops seem to have lost the art of working with flare
fittings on older A/C systems. Flare Fittings are becoming obsolete to
the newer O-Ring fittings. The O-Rings are much simpler to work with.
The Flare fittings, once properly sealed will last a life time. I just
had to order 40 Sandon SD-5 compressors as a minimum order to have them
make these with Flare fittings and not use O-Ring to Flare fitting
adaptors. I am also having supply issues for all the different flare
style hose ends to find matching hose ends with flare fittings for all
the combinations we assemble in the quantities we make up at a time.
