Aluminum or Chromed Shifter Gate

I have both and both look good. Is the aluminum better because it is a soft metal and won't scrape the shifter? Thanks Ken I have both and both look good. Is the aluminum better because it is a soft metal and won't scrape the shifter? Thanks Ken

Perhaps but you're likely to wear down the fingers because the shifter is a harder material. That said, my chromed gate is worn to a point between 1st and 3rd gear and I'll be installing my 3rd shift lever since I've owned the car (2004) as part of the restoration. Still haven't decided if I'm going to spring $105 for Wilkinson's gate. You can weld up the lever and have it rechromed. I would also shorten it. I like it shorter Rich Sent from my iPhone

Many moons ago I reconditioned my shift lever by brazing up the worn section and having the lever re-chromed. The chrome didn't last too long in the wear zone, but the brass is still there. Brass sliding on steel doesn't wear much. As previously noted, your results may vary. Jeff/2467
