Dear Mike, I understand your concern and frustration. I was lucky the first time, years ago, I removed the interior rear view mirror. For some reason, it went back into place with only modest effort and about one minute. I removed it about a year ago and then proceeded to suffer for what seems like an hour of struggling and curses. However, I *knew* that it could and would go back. I don't think I resorted to a hammer, but the old phrase of "holding your tongue just right" has some pertinence. I seem to recall that I decided to apply a small judicious amount of Mobil 1 grease, which I think finally tipped things in my favor. If there is a trick to re-mounting, then I would be keen to hear it.
