All, I was contacted today by Kirby Schrader who notified me that beloved Houston Pantera and vintage race stalwart Gray Gregory passed away peacefully just before midnight, after a valiant 18-month battle with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Just one year ago this weekend we were together at Road America, where he transferred ownership of his Chevron F2 car to John Taphorn and cheered him on as he raced it for the first time. Ever-giving, here is a pic of Gray analyzing the data from John’s first-ever laps and offering advice…. I loved him like a brother. We had so many wonderful adventures together, including multiple classic car rallies in Europe in my GT-350 some 20 years ago. I will miss him so much…. Really, really sad to hear this. A now-legendary picture of Gray and us getting some utility out of my delta wing. A huge loss of a really great guy On Mon, Jul 21, 2025 at 7:14 PM Mike Drew via DeTomaso < detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> wrote:

So sorry to hear. I’ve heard stories about his collection and his generosity. I’d hoped to meet up with him again someday. My condolences. Asa Jay MSgT, USAFR, Retired “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.” Ronald Reagan

Sad news indeed. I got to see Gray last summer at Road America along with Mike Drew and John Taphorn and the wives. Although Gray couldn't talk very well it didn't stop him from having fun watching and supporting John race his car. Being from Iowa I only got to see Gray a couple of times before that. Once a few years back at Road America and years ago during the Houston rally at the pig roast he threw for the POCA crowd. Although we only had brief encounters he was very engaging and friendly. A genuinely nice guy. My sympathies to his family. Gray, along with Dave Bell, Kirby Schrader, and Mike Drew helped me buy my car back in 2001. I was an out of state buyer. Gray allowed me to park the car at his ranch after the purchase was made until I could come get it. He even did some work on it to make sure I could drive it safely back to Washington state! He and the rest of the crew really went out of their way to help a total stranger. Gray was a man who had a lot, but gave more than what he had. John #2647 Sent from my iPhone
