This rig here is owned by a Pantera owner named Michel who lives in Le Mans. He actually rescued a broken-down Pantera on Thursday (whose owner shall go unnamed by me!). As a gag he put a photo of Stephane and Michele Bergeron in the back window. Sadly Michel’s 1979 GTS ate its fuel pump on the first day and with no spares on hand, he was relegated to driving the truck for the rest of the weekend…. Sent from my iPad

Mechanical Fuel Pumps today are hit and miss. I have many fail brand new. Thus, I keep (2) spares on hand. The ones that failed were made in Mexico. The current ones that are working were made in South Korea. Mine were CARTER from RockAuto. M6882 I just looked and they show out of stock with no indication if they will even them back in stock? AMAZON has them starting at $23.00 or EBAY for double the price and if you order one from Ebay it will most likely, come from Amazon. They all come with (2) gaskets. I always wondered why? I have hell getting the pump lined up with 1 gasket. I did take one apart. Using a hack saw. I found the inlet check valve stop checking and thus the pump could not build up pressure to the carb. Dear John and Mike, There may be one mechanical fuel pump that you can consider: https://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/ford550.html I have used these for the last sixteen years and had no problems. Much better than the Made in Mexico pumps and the "Holley Performance" fuel pumps made in Taiwan (or China) with Holley's old machining. One of the founders of Robb McPerformance is a Ford Cleveland guy. They are pricey, but far better than commonly available mechanical pumps. Chuck, this pump appears to be the cure for a major ongoing problem. Thank you for sharing this information. 🏎🏎🏎 Leslie A. Gray

Your car needs Fuel., Air and Spark to run. My sons car had a similar problem. New fuel pump and carburetor did not solve the issue.Turns out the 12 volt power to the coil was was loosing voltage due to a wire in the harness rubbing on the frame. Just enough to suck down the voltage, make it stall out but not blow a fuse. After moving the harness around the fuse blew. Thus, we were able to determine the location of the wire that had rubbed thru causing the issue. You also may have a bad coil. You may want to swap the coil that out first. I had two more issues with my cars 46 year history due to the wiring from the distributor to the coil - When I ran points the car would cut out when hot. After all the normal items were replaced with no luck I found the distributer had a quick plug on the fire wall. It turned out the spade connector was not making good contact with the wire it was crimped to. I had a dwell meter on the points and wiggling the wire at the connection the point resistance pointer would go from red to green to red. Cleaning the connector did nothing. I ended up cutting out the connector and I crimped on a new one. The meter was back to green all the time. That only took 6 months to solve that issue. 2. A few years ago I had a similar issue to the above only with electronic ignition. Same issue as above but in this case it was the wires from the electronic module under the cap direct to the coil that needed to be re-crimped. These loose connections are all it takes to make ones driving experience a bad dream.
